IVAN MAUGER: THE WILL TO WIN |
THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY
With Martin Rogers |
IVAN Mauger is more than the outstanding
individual performer in speedway.
He can also point to hugely successful
partnerships on and off the track.
His latest ‘best pairs’ partner is
award-wining journalist, historian and
former promoter Martin Rogers who is
co-authoring Ivan’s eagerly-awaited
autobiography.
Martin has written and/or edited 19 sports
books and collaborated with other former
speedway champions including Barry Briggs,
Bruce Penhall and Jason Crump.
As a highly regarded journalist and
administrator during the ‘Mauger years’ and
now as a friend and fellow Gold Coast
resident, he is outstandingly qualified to
help bring Ivan’s unique life story to
speedway fans worldwide.

IVAN MAUGER: THE WILL TO WIN |
THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY
|
To be published in July 2010
IVAN Mauger is a champion who has lived
his life surrounded by champions.
It is fitting, then, that Jason Crump,
the reigning world speedway champion,
should have jumped at the opportunity to
put pen to paper in tribute to the
six-time title winner.
Jason, whose 2009 Grand Prix series
victory was the third of his career, is
contributing a heartfelt foreword to
Ivan’s new autobiography The Will To Win
which will be published in July.
The Australian superstar, who has
benefited from Mauger’s friendship,
experience and advice, describes the
all-conquering Kiwi as ‘unquestionably
the greatest speedway rider ever’.
‘Ivan taught me the skills to focus on
my mental preparation and these
techniques are world-beaters,” he said.
Echoing Jason’s words of introduction is
champion journalist and administrator
Peter Oakes. director of speedway and
newly appointed co-promoter of
Peterborough Panthers, who places his
personal spin on the achievements of
Ivan.
The two have been friends and colleagues
since the 1960s and Peter is uniquely
qualified to talk about the sport’s
most-decorated rider. He was his manager
and business associate for many years
and collaborated with Ivan on several
books.
“It would hard for anyone to put forward
a convincing caser against him being
classified as the greatest of all time,”
he said.
